The school system in France

Hello everybody!

We want to explain what school is like in France. We begin the school at 3 years old in kindegarden (maternelle in french). After we go to primary school from 6 to 11 years old. Next you have "collège" (middle school) from 11 to 15 years old.

In high school (lycée in french), from 15 to 18 years old, we begin every morning at 8 o'clock and we finish the evening at 6 pm. So we have between 8 and 9 hours of classes everyday. We work from Monday to Friday but we don't have school Wednesday afternoon which is very good! ;)

We study lots of subjects like literature, langauages: we can choose 2 or 3 between spanish, english, german, italian or portuguese. We learn also chemistry, maths, history, sport and biologie.

   There are 3 grades:

- seconde (grade 10)

-première (grade 11)

-terminale (grade 12)

In "première" you have to choose between 4 sections:

-L (literature)

-S (sciences)

-ES (economy)

-STG (trade and law)

There is also some others sections but these are the principals...

We can have lunch at school, unfortunately it isn't good at all! =)

The school year starts at the begining of September. We have have some breaks during the year:

-at the end of october (10 days)

-Christams holidays at the end of December (2 weeks)

-February holidays (2 weeks) during which we go skiing because it is winter, and ski resorts are 30 minutes from here.

-Easter holidays in April (2weeks).

To ending, there are summer holidays during 2 months, July and Auguste.

In France, exams and marks are really importants so we have lots of test. Too much! :D

In grade 11, we take the first part of our final exam, the BAC: we take french and history.

In grade 12, we take all the others subjects and marks are out of 20.

At school, there is no dress code and  we have recess all the 2 hours of classes.

After high school, if we pass our final exam, we go to university or others schools to study and get experience for our futur job.

We know that it was a bit long but we wish you appreciate it! :D

Camille R. and Ludovic.
